THE SURF

North Swell Season (November to February)

Flying from Nadi, Viti Levu to Labasa, Vanua Levu you'll see the "Great Surf Reef." North Pacific winter swells (the same that hit Hawaii) as well as South Pacific tropical cyclones produce consistent swells during these months of November to February.  East to South East trade winds prevail during the summer months but winds can be variable during passing storms (cyclone season). However, with such a selection of offshore locations there is almost always one of the breaks offering clean, offshore conditions. Resort boats are used to access offshore surfspots. Currently there are a half dozen spots that have proven to have world-class surf, but that is just the beginning. More unnamed and un-ridden surf spots are waiting to be discovered.  Nukubati is more than just a surf package.  This is a destination for surfers that want to explore the outer limits of known surf spots in the Fijian islands.  SEE MORE INFO HERE - http://www.surfline.com/travel/2005_05_11_fiji.cfm

Twin Pass
Located just south west of the small island of Kia off the the northern coast of Vanua Levu, is an incredible gem of a reef pass.  4 amazing waves, 2 lefts and 2 rights, 2 of which are genuinely world class.  Facing north to north west and sitting about 8-10 miles off the mainland coast,  the 2 adjacent passes are ideally situated to pick up strong WNW swells out of the north pacific from November thru early March, as well as the periodic cyclones brewing further west off the Phillipines.  With the winds generally slack this time of year, blowing occasionally out of the east and north east, the conditions just couldn’t be much better.  And of course the best part….Nobody around for miles.

Nukubati - Fiji

I find it comforting that certain people have no desire to adapt to a frenzied pace of life and do as they have always done, acting with great grace and a sense of villa community.  Amanda Jones - LA Times
