THE SURF
Nicaragua has a variety of quality surf spots. Around the San Juan Del Sur area, there are some excellent beach breaks, a few good left points, and numerous reef outcroppings.
In general, the beach breaks are consistent and can get extremely good. Tides play a major role in Nicaragua with most spots favoring medium to higher tides. Needless to say, there's a lot more to the surf than we're willing to admit here. We'll let you be the judge by experiencing it first hand.
Coastal access is limited and surfing every day by boat is the only way to guarantee getting the best and most uncrowded waves to yourself.

Nicaragua Essentials
Bring a wetsuit vest or a spring suit. With the strong wind the water temp can change and it sometimes drops down to the upper 60's, so a vest might be needed on these days.
If you have any interest in fishing, bring some basic gear. You won't be sorry... the fishing is really good.
Make sure to bring a good pair of fins if you like to bodysurf. Some of the heavier beach breaks are great for bodysurfing.
Don't forget a windbreaker or rain jacket for the boat ride. Sometimes there are heavy rain squalls and it can get brisk on the ride home after surfing all day.
