ASU SURF PARADISE

Your only concern is arranging a flight to Medan Polonia International Airport in Indonesia; we’ll handle the rest—there will be no hassles.  We need precise flight schedule information and a photocopy of your passport.

Upon your arrival at the airport, our staff will pick you up and transport you to the four-star Danau Toba International Hotel where you will rest from your long flight and perhaps enjoy a cool Bintang by the pool.
Early the next morning, after a complimentary breakfast at the hotel’s extensive buffet, our staff will pick you up and take you back to the airport where you are already booked on the one-hour flight to the island of Nias. If you’re lucky, you may even glimpse the majestic peaks of North Sumatra out your window as you fly over.

At the airport in Gunungsitoli, Nias, our staff will be waiting with a private, air conditioned car to take you on a scenic two hour ride past rice patties, villages, and waving school children, across the island of Nias to Sirombu harbour.

But wait, there’s more! One of the resort’s speedboats will then pick you and your gear up at the harbor and take you on a half-hour boat ride across the turquoise blue Indian Ocean to the beautiful island of Asu that will be your own surf paradise for the next twelve days.

THE SURF

During the surf season (April-October), the Hinako's region consistently picks up more swell than the Mentawais, Telos, and Banyaks. The remote location guarantees uncrowded waves, with very rarely more than 15 people in the lineup and often no one at all.

Asu - is a reeling, 100 yard long, hollow left with a perfect barrel and steep, work-able face, breaking over a shallow reef. South winds are offshore here. You can walk here from camp in about 10 minutes, or simply jump in the speedboat and be out in the water in less than 5.

Bawa only 20 minutes away by speedboat, is a thick, powerful right-hander that breaks in deep water. Often compared to Sunset Beach, this wave offers intense drops and wide tubes. Facing due south, Bawa picks up more swell than Asu and holds to 15 feet (Hawaiian) and beyond, rarely being less than 3. Bawa works on North winds which are onshore at Asu. So if the wind isn't good for Asu, chances are Bawa is clean and pumping.

Hinako Secrets - In addition, there are 5 secret spots that we can boat to when the weather and conditions are favorable. If the swell is too big to paddle into, as is common at Bawa, we also offer guided tow-in surfing via jet-ski. Photographers and videographers are available on request to catch your biggest barrels and gnarliest wipeouts.

Main Land Nias – We can also arrange trips to the famed Lagundri Bay, only two and a half hours from the resort by boat and private car. Though typically very crowded with traveling surfers and shredding local boys who have grown up with perfection at their fingertips, Lagundri is an unbelievable right-hander with smooth, ultra- consistent barrels, definitely worthy of a detour.
