MEDICINE MAN In general, El Salvador is fairly disease free. However, that's not to say there aren't risks. Food and waterborne diseases are the primary contributors to nasty health in Central America, so it is wise to take precautions, especially with drinking water. Bottled water should be part of your discipline when in El Salvador, regardless of appearances. No vaccinations are required for U.S. citizens coming directly from the the States to El Salvador, but you should consult with your doctor regarding the wisdom of getting Hepatitis A and/or tetanus vaccines. On malaria, there is a very limited risk, but it exists in certain provinces mainly in the interior. Again, we counsel you to discuss with your doctor and if necessary take the proper prescription anti-malarial. For more health related information, we'd be glad to link you on over to the Centers for Disease Control pages for this area: www.cdc.gov |
